C03 – Mechanical and chemical control of single and multiphoton emission

Summary

Assembling molecular or nanocrystalline quantum emitters by chemical means in a bottom-up approach, the electronic coupling between the entities and their photon statistics is studied by single molecule fluorescence spectroscopy. Besides inter-particle distance and orientation, external control by either a mechanical force or a chemical reaction will be employed to modify the coupling strength and to induce the transition from single to cooperative multiphoton emission. In collaboration with theory we envisage an improved understanding of different modes of cooperative emission as superradiance or amplified spontaneous emission and how they are interrelated.
