Probing & benchmarking quantum devices with randomized measurements


In today’s era of noisy intermediate-scale quantum devices, a key challenge lies in scaling up quantum devices while enhancing the control and quality of their individual components. This requires protocols for efficient probing & benchmarking quantum devices at scale. In my talk, I will introduce randomized measurements - measuring quantum states repeatedly in randomly chosen bases – and classical shadows as a powerful toolbox for characterizing quantum many-body devices and probing quantum many-body phenomena. Specifically, I will present applications demonstrating entanglement detection in trapped ion and superconducting qubit quantum systems.

Finally, I will show how leveraging emergent randomness in ergodic quantum many-body systems leads to effective fidelity estimation and entanglement detection protocols, with experimental results from a 60-atom Rydberg quantum simulator beyond exact classical simulatability.

Mixture of on-site talks at the main sites of QuCoLiMa (Erlangen, Mainz, Saarbrücken) as well as online talks. Regardless of where the talks are given, they are livestreamed via Zoom and can be watched from home/office or cooperatively in the meeting rooms.
